Actual fake news.

As a creative copywriting exercise, I began sketching satirical news articles in 2020 with a key distinction: no politics. I wanted to strip away the partisan tendencies that dominate the vast majority of similar outlets.

Extra cheese.

It necessarily leans a into dad-joke territory. But that’s OK, maybe even the point. I wanted to offer an antidote to the doom-scroll epidemic and avoid the low-hanging fruit of partisan rage bait.

I quickly learned that it’s getting harder to satirize the modern world. What might have been absurd just a few decades ago now carries frightening plausibility.

Not as fake as you think.

Gallows humor.

Still, it’s better to laugh than cry. I enjoy writing these silly little reflections, and it’s been a fun addition to my creative workout routine.
