Flora and Fauna

I’ve always found nude portraits to be a bit overrated. Sure, they can be beautiful in and of themselves. But in this 2008 series, I decided to use them more as a blank canvas than a feature presentation. Compositing my own macro photographs from the New York Botanical Garden, I hand-painted additional details directly onto the photos. It was a labor-intensive but rewarding creative process inspired not by flesh, but flora and fauna.
